Games and Beer: Three Rest Stops off I-70

There’s no secret about it, drinking beer in Colorado is often complemented by tossing a bean bag, a horseshoe, or a small metal disc. And long road trips always call for such a rest stop.  So what better rest stop is there than a brewery with games? Here are three favorites:

Vine Street Pub and Brewery is a couple miles south from I-70 near downtown Denver, but can be easily reached on York Ave southbound from the interstate. It’s a perfect place to stop for food, (awesome burgers), drinks and Cornhole on a cross-country trip.

Crazy Mountain Brewing in Edwards (west of Vail), has become one of our favorite high country watering holes.  With picnic table seating outside, it’s a great place to grab lunch from your road trip ice-chest.  And right behind the keg storage shed?  A beautiful Horseshoe pit. Continue reading

Colorado is Happy Hour

It’s Friday. People in Denver race off to their favorite spots for happy hour . . . some times sneaking away from work a bit early to catch the warm 4 o’clock rays on a restaurant patio.  The Mile High city has a reputation for great early evening deals.  People love this time of day.

And though we often partake in the end-of-work-week ritual, the sun is shining and the mountains beckon. Today, we drive to a different beat than the normal happy hour crowd, but that’s part of running a brewery blog . . . poor us, to be motivated to venture outside of Denver for the next happy craft. We load-up our camping gear, pack some happy hour food and beer rations of our own, and head for the hills. In less than two hours we’re sipping on a tasting tray at Crazy Mountain Brewery in Vail.  Continue reading
